Date already changed

FOR the erroneously outraged that Triple J has changed the date for the Hottest 100, some facts. It was on January 1 for a long time then switched to March. They consulted widely with many of the Aboriginal artists who are on their playlists as well as others before the new proposal. I’d bet none of the complainants would even know what the Hottest 100 is.

Banners last straw

MY thoughts on the banners (Letters, December 2) are that this was Hobart City Council’s take on the “greening” of the Sandy Bay shopping precinct. After spending a great deal on grey paving, which is already looking dirty, seating in strange places, etc, the banners were the last straw. The palms were dreadful, but surely there was some species of tree that would not have been a traffic hazard and given some life to the “grey strip” which has been created. I hope the other suburbs to receive an upgrade fare better.

Meter charge unfair

WHY should we pay to replace the meter that Aurora put in? They didn’t want normal meters in houses, so we were told this was the way it was going to go statewide. But it didn’t. Then they said they didn't have to read them. Well guess again, they have done for the past two years. It is pensioners or low-income earners who mainly have these meters and they are the ones who can’t afford a new meter, and some don’t even have a smartphone or computer to use, let alone top up their power or

Voted for Safe Schools

KAREN Dickson (Talking Point, December 7) correctly identifies Safe Schools as an issue that was raised during the marriage postal survey. In fact, the Coalition for Marriage argued during the survey that that was what we were actually voting on. So with Australians and Tasmanians overwhelmingly voting Yes, I hope that Coalition politicians can respect the will of the people and ensure that the Safe Schools program can freely run and be well funded. It is a program that teaches children basic respect and saves lives.

Go figure

WELL now, hasn’t Meghan Markle created quite a stir. A divorced, mature-age Catholic American about to marry a handsome prince, who have shared a wonderful private holiday test-run in Botswana, about to change her religious faith from Catholicism and renounce her allegiance to America and become a UK citizen. I wonder how Pope Francis feels about it? When Ms Markle swears loyalty to Betty Windsor, she is able to retain her American citizenship, but loses allegiance to the US? Kinda sounds like our Federal Parliament and Glenorchy council in the same blender, on high speed. Go figure.
