Pengfei has designs on Tassie dream

- LORETTA LOHBERGER

ONE of the University of Tasmania’s most recent graduates is looking forward to a career in architecture.

Pengfei Yang, who moved to Launceston from China to study, and who yesterday graduated with a Bachelor of Environmental Design from the School of Architecture and Design, is now working with Stuart Tanner Architects in Hobart.

Before coming to Tasmania, Mr Yang, 32, worked in China as an architectural photographer.

“I took photos for construction firms and architectural firms [and] documented their progress,” he said.

Mr Yang said his father, who died in 2006, was a structural engineer.

It was a job Mr Yang thought was exciting.

“I thought it’s a career I can take on,” he said.

Mr Yang said he was interested in small buildings, as well as public buildings and public spaces.

Mr Yang’s wife has moved to Tasmania from China to join her husband and they are both working towards becoming Australian citizens.

Almost 4500 University of Tasmania students will graduate over the next two weeks at ceremonies in Launceston, Burnie and Hobart. Three graduation ceremonies will be held at Launceston’s Albert Hall today, with a town and gown parade before the 11am ceremony.

The Burnie ceremony will be held on Tuesday and Hobart ceremonies will be held from December 18-20.
