Luke gets wish to be rich for a day

OLD Beach’s Lucas Peters has had a taste of the life of the rich and famous.

Lucas, 10, and his best mate Luke Moore, 12, were picked up from school in a limousine and, with Lucas’s family, driven to Wrest Point where they enjoyed high tea at The Point Revolving Restaurant.

Lucas, who has a form of muscular dystrophy, has been granted a wish “to be rich for a day” by Hobart’s Make-A-Wish branch.

He and his family will go to Sydney in March, where Lucas will be treated to a ride in a Lamborghini and spend a day “shopping like the rich and famous”.

Yesterday Wrest Point hosted Lucas, his family and Luke, to give Lucas a taste of what it is like to be rich.

“It’s a pretty exciting time for him,” Lucas’s father Michael Peters said.

Hobart Make-A-Wish branch president Amanda French said being rich for a day was something new.

Mr Peters said he was pleased Luke could join the family for yesterday’s high tea, which was a surprise for both boys, who have been friends for seven years.

Ms French said the Sydney trip would be a special time for Lucas and his family.

“The whole family experiences the pain and the pressure of what being diagnosed with a lifethreatening medical condition is about, so it’s really an opportunity for the family to have something to look forward to, particularly for the wish child to build up that excitement of what’s to come at the end of their extremely hard journey,” she said.
