Where there’s a Will there’s a way

-

FREE this Saturday night? Then will your way to the Poobah to see Hobart alt-rock band Verticoli launch their new EP.

Pumping out tracks with unique melodies, unconventional structures and thoughtprovoking lyrics, Verticoli — a former Mercury Falls Festival Foster Band made up of Sam Hunn (guitar, vocals), Luis Fantarella (bass) and Thomas Norman (drums) — have supported the likes of British India, DZ Deathrays, Cog, The Delta Riggs and Kingswood in recent years.

In 2015, they released their debut album Punching Bag (featuring the singles Happiness and Head Things).

Now Verticoli are taking the next step in their ongoing evolution with the release of their new EP Free Will on December 1.

Setting powerful riffs and soaring vocals on top of monstrous rhythms, the five tracks on Free Will were recorded by Jake Long at Hobart’s Red Planet Studios before being mastered by renowned producer Forrester Savell, who has previously worked with the likes of Karnivool and Dead Letter Circus.

The EP’s title track is Verticoli’s new single, and it has already been getting played on Triple J.

In his four-star review, Triple J guru Richard Kingsmill said Free Will packs “some riffage Billy Corgan would have been proud of back in the day”, while Unearthed executive producer Tommy Faith claimed the song’s guitars “sound crunchier than a packet of chips in a quiet cinema”.

Verticoli will officially launch Free Will with two shows this weekend: at Club 54 in Launceston tomorrow night; and at The Grand Poobah in Hobart from 9pm on Saturday (with The Saxons and Pearly Whites). Tickets are $5 at the door.
