GENRE- BLENDING Melbourne duo Slum Sociable have finally released their highly anticipated debut album, and will launch it with a show in Hobart on Saturday night.

Slum Sociable started when Edward Quinn (production, guitar, keyboards) needed someone to sing on some tracks he’d produced for a uni assignment. So he called the best singer he knew, Miller Upchurch (vocals, percussion).

The pair started writing new groove-laden tunes that combined elements of soul, hiphop, jazz and electronica, and topped them off with Upchurch’s highly personal lyrics.

The result was their 2015 debut EP, TQ, which won them plenty of fans and led to invitations to perform at festivals across Australia, the US and Europe.

Last month Slum Sociable unleashed their long-awaited self-titled album, which Rolling Stone hailed as a “mesmerising, genre-defying debut”.

Featuring a mix of old songs given fresh life, and brand new tracks, the album was recorded between Melbourne and London with producers Russell Fawcus (The Temper Trap) and Rich Cooper (Mystery Jets), and has garnered attention from influential music blogs around the world.

Now Slum Sociable are bringing their four-piece live band to Hobart to promote the album, joined by 20-year-old West Australian alt-pop singer Teischa. They play at the Hobart Brewing Co from 8pm on Saturday. Tickets are $22.08, go to for bookings.
