Cool down, it’s party time

-

DANCE through the afternoon and right into the night with Yolanda Be Cool tomorrow, when the Sydney duo headline a Salamanca street party.

Yolanda Be Cool — Andrew Stanley and Matthew Handley — make sample-heavy party music that combines underground cool with a pop sensibility.

The pair are best known for their 2010 smash-hit single with fellow producer DCUP, We No Speak Americano, which sold more than five million copies and amassed 200 million YouTube views.

Setting 1950s Italian folk song samples over a techno beat, We No Speak Americano went to No.1 across Europe and reached No.4 on the Australian charts, and was nominated for ARIA Awards for Best Dance Release and Most Popular Australian Single.

Yolanda Be Cool’s 2013 debut album Ladies and Mentalmen featured contributions by the likes of indigenous Australian icon Gurrumul and soul legend Betty Wright, plus club favourites such as Le Bump (featuring house royalty Crystal Waters), Change (featuring US rapper Nola Darling), Before Midnight (featuring Arama Mara) and To Be Alone (featuring Omar).

In 2015 they returned to the studio with DCUP and emerged with a remake of the Rodriguez classic Sugar Man, which later went platinum in Australia.

They quickly followed it up with Soul Makossa, which reached No.2 on the Beatport.

After spending the Australian winter in the US, hosting rooftop pool parties in Hollywood each Sunday, Yolanda Be Cool have now teamed up with Portuguese producer Massivedrum for their latest track, Hacia La Noche (“Into the Night”).

Released on December 1, the South American-flavoured Hacia La Noche combines a driving beat with traditional cumbian flair and is sure to get a spin when Yolanda Be Cool headline a street party outside Cargo at Salamanca from 3pm tomorrow.

They will be supported by DJ Millhouse and DJ Rikin.

Entry is free.
