Skipper to skipper, Knight a big help

- ADAM SMITH

SHE is not available to assist in turning around the Hurricanes fortunes on the field but England captain Heather Knight is doing what she can off it to help her former WBBL side.

Knight, who led Hobart to backto-back semi-final appearances in the first two editions of the women’s Big Bash, was ruled out of this summer’s tournament by the English and Wales Cricket Board to recover from a foot injury.

However, she has not abandoned the side, linking back up with the squad yesterday at training before its clash against the Sydney Sixers at Blundstone on Sunday.

“She has had really good input to the girls, she is having great chats with our batters and bowlers,” coach Julia Price said.

“It is good for Corinne [Hall] too, to bounce ideas off and how she can juggle around the bowlers a bit differently to what happened.

“It is great having her around, she is a great asset for the group.”

Hall had a tough initiation to her WBBL captaincy last weekend, with the Hurricanes blown away by the Adelaide Strikers in a pair of matches in Glenelg.

Price said it was up to the rest of the squad to take the pressure off Hall’s shoulders by standing up.

“It shows what a good captain Heather Knight has been the last couple of years and how she has really driven that team,” she said.

“Now it is time for the team to stand up and help Corinne out.”
