Preserve Hobart’s lifestyle

I AGREE that Macquarie Point could save the lifestyle of Hobart (Talking Point, December 21). I urge our politicians to implement Peter Partridge’s suggestions. Tasmania needs politicians with imagination. I agree that “Macquarie Point guarantees opportunity for economic outcomes such as those more recently proposed — the science precinct and the Eden Project — but, in addition, Macquarie Point still offers the opportunity to become Hobart’s major transport hub”. mania’s two retail arms, Aurora in Tasmania and Momentum (cheaper by far) in Victoria, sell at vastly different prices. Tasmania craves retail domestic competition in the electricity market and that doesn’t mean Momentum gets a guernsey either. While on the subject of consumer electricity, how is it that the purchaser, Aurora Energy, gets to dictate to a solar feedback supplier the price of feedback electricity? Perhaps as Energy Minister you need to look at price gouging. for its members. At the moment, the TCCI does not appear to be community-minded and getting behind these shows could be a great boost to its public image.

Inexperience

HAS it occurred to Rebecca White that she is being accused of inexperience, not because of her gender, but because of her inexperience?

Too many questions

A YOUNG female politician labelled as inexperienced is claiming sexism. This is obviously a cry by a politician who’s in trouble and looking for the sympathy vote And in trouble she is. Her high-note revelation is that the Labor Party will eradicate poker machines over a five-year period. It’s very trite for the Labor Party to claim it can re-skill workers, but it hasn’t explained where those jobs will be. Tasmanian voters with any political savvy will remember the mess created by Labor when it was last in power, and if common sense prevails, re-elect the Liberal Party, which, granted, has some problems in the health portfolio, but did anyone really expect such a major redevelopment of the RHH not to cause problems with bed and staff shortages?

And while Labor claims to have the answers to this and other problems, it is very reticent in revealing those answers to the voting public.

Clarence misunderstanding

ON Monday, Clarence aldermen showed little understanding of opposition to the Kangaroo Bay Development. Insults were traded. Buildings will block iconic views of the mountain and be detrimental to the appeal of Bellerive. Why was crown land sold to an overseas developer?

No junk mail

VOTERS in the upcoming state and council elections have to ask, what do candidates not understand about a sign that says no junk mail?

I’ll pass this year

I HAVE nothing against Christmas but, some years, I just wish there was an opt out button.

Season of goodwill

SEEMINGLY an old-fashioned miracle is desperately needed to unify our troubled world. Surely world leaders and politicians could put aside their differences for the season of goodwill? I mean, “All things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small”. That covers every little thing. Go for it everyone.
