Begbie’s done it BERLIN-BASED Hobart piano man Georgie Begbie is back in town armed with a new album, which he’ll launch with a one-off show at the Peacock Theatre next week. Begbie has returned from Germany with his new album What Have I Done?, featuring melodies that move between funk and jazz rhythms. Lyrically, the album balances exploratio­ns of depression, anxiety and rejection with stories about the elation of new relationsh­ips and true friendship. George Begbie launches What Have I Done? at the Peacock Theatre (Salamanca Arts Centre) from 8pm on Wednesday. Tickets are $18, $16 concession, available from www.trybooking.com

Saints alive THE Hobart Blues Club will kick off its 2018 season next week with a show featuring old-school blues band The Patron Saints. Featuring Dave Hall (vocals, harmonica), Pat Curley (guitar, vocals), Rob Moore (bass) and Lino Totaro (drums), The Patron Saints recreate the classic sounds of 1950s and ’60s Chicago, inspired by the likes of Muddy Waters, Howlin’ Wolf, Little Walter and John Lee Hooker. The band has featured at the Hobart Blues Club’s Cool August Blues event for the past two years, and will headline the club’s January gig at the Duke Hotel in Macquarie St from 7.30pm on Tuesday. The Patron Saints also play at the Taste of Tasmania from 1.30pm on Monday, and at Bright Eyes Cafe on the Brooke Street Pier from 6pm on Australia Day.
