Sarah plays a joker to come up trumps

-

HOBART’S Jokers Comedy Club returns from its Christmas hiatus next week, with London-based Aussie comedian Sarah Bennetto stepping up to headline.

A founding member of popular Melbourne improv troupe The Crew, Bennetto’s comedy career kicked off in 2002, when she represented Victoria in the Raw Comedy national final.

She has performed as part of the Edinburgh Fringe every year since, originally hosting her cult comedy collective Storytellers’ Club before making her solo stand-up debut in 2009 with Sarah Bennetto is Lucky.

Her second solo show, The King & I, was based around her true story about accidentally ending up having dinner with Prince Charles one night.

And Bennetto’s most recent show, All My Life’s Mistakes, Catalogued, is exactly what it sounds like: a list of every mistake she’s ever made.

Bennetto has developed a following in London for her weekly late-night radio show Sarah Bennetto’s Mix-Tape.

She also records a radio show each year backstage at the Glastonbury Festival, and is a regular guest on comedy panel shows and podcasts such as Global Pillage.

Sarah Bennetto headlines the 133rd Jokers Comedy Club show at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. She will be joined by Canadian-born support act Gillian English and guest host Dylan Hesp. Tickets are $22 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 6234 5998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
