Christmas questions
I AM sure Malcolm Turnbull was sincere in his Christmas message but surely he must see the irony of it all. He refers to Christmas as a wondrous time of year, but it is far from wondrous for those incarcerated on Manus for the fifth Christmas. The Prime Minister spoke of Christmas being a time to get together with family. Fat chance for those on Manus. Malcolm Turnbull asked us to remember the homeless. For those on Nauru and Manus, home is a concept which no longer has any meaning and, as for Christmas being a joyous celebration, there is nothing joyous for them to celebrate.
What makes our country great, Malcolm Turnbull asks. He answers: looking after others. So, why do we not look after those who came seeking peace and freedom from abominations in their own countries, only to be treated as criminals. Were they so, they would have received a trial. They would know the length of their sentence and be receiving help to prepare for life after serving time. Our Government offers nothing but more uncertainty and despair. What has Australia become? places serious doubts on the longevity of the rest of the cable to the point it is no longer viable as a reliable system. My guess is at Basslink Co, the repaired cable is back to full specification and it is business as usual for technical operations. The photo and circumstantial evidence, to me, still points towards external mechanical trauma consistent with the type of net weights used by large fishing trawlers.
