THE Clarence City Council’s outdoor Gold Grass Cinema is coming back for 2018, with four silver screen favourites set to hit the big screen this summer.

The season kicks off next weekend with the screening of two family favourites — 1987 fantasy film The Princess Bride, starring Carey Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin and Andre the Giant; and the 1985 adventure/comedy The Goonies, about a group of young misfits on a mission to find a pirate’s priceless treasure.

The Goonies was directed by Richard Donner and based on a story idea from master director Steven Spielberg, who was also executive producer on the film.

Gold Grass Cinema will then offer a more grown-up film on February 16 — the 1999 true story Girl, Interrupted, which featured Angelina Jolie’s breakout role as a patient in a mental institution for young women.

The following night, the Gold Grass season will culminate in a screening of the acclaimed 2012 film The Cabin in the Woods, which helped redefine the horror genre.

“Gold Grass Cinema is a fantastic inclusion in our Summer Series program,” Clarence Mayor Doug Chipman said.

“It allows us to showcase one of our finest assets, the Rosny Farm, and to offer a program of movies we forgot we loved.”

Gold Grass Cinema will screen on the lawn at Rosny Farm (behind Eastlands) on January 12 ( The Princess Bride) and January 13 ( The Goonies); and February 16 ( Girl, Interrupted) and February 17 ( The Cabin in the Woods). All sessions have a fully licensed bar plus snacks, hot chocolate, coffee and desserts.

Tickets are $15 (plus booking fee), go to www.eventbrite.com.au for bookings or www.clarenceartsandevents.net for more information. Gold Grass Cinema schedule — January 12: The Princess Bride January 13: The Goonies February 16: Girl, Interrupted February 17: The Cabin in the Woods
