Distant bank

- Lynda Simic Howrah Jim Dent Hobart

I HAD to go to the bank because I believed my mother’s account had been illegally accessed. Yes it had been was the answer and the transaction had been flagged as fraudulent on November 4. I asked what the bank would do in these circumstances. “We would send her an SMS”. Flag roles

WHY the Union Jack? St George’s Cross is a sub-national flag of England just as St Andrews Saltire (Scotland), Red Dragon for Wales, and Ireland St Patrick’s Cross. The Union Jack is not the flag of Scotland, it is flown to represent the union of these countries. Scotland has its flag, just as England has St George’s Cross, but these are sub-national flags. That is why the Union Jack is flown to represent these countries.

Missed at meeting

ON Thursday, Tassal had an open meeting to explain the expansion of its salmon fish-farm business into Storm Bay. It was attended by a large and diverse group from the Tasman Peninsula community.

Lower cricket cost

CRICKET officials are scratching their heads as to why crowd numbers are down for Hurricanes games this year. Maybe it’s the cost of entering the ground, whether to sit on the grass or a reserved seat? Some seats cost up to $80, with others about $53 down to $40.

Most Tasmanians won’t spend that amount more than once or twice over their summer holidays. General admission to Etihad Stadium is $20 and that entitles you to a seat on the third level. T20 is supposed to be aimed at families but for a couple of adults and their children to attend more than once would be quite a prohibitive cost. Lower your prices across the board and I’m sure attendances would increase by thousands.
