Garfoot steals lead
AUSTRALIAN cycling star Katrin Garfoot has taken the overall lead in the women’s Tour Down Under road race after winning stage two in heavy rain and blustery cross winds. The UNISA-Australia rider outsprinted compatriots Lucy Kennedy and Amanda Spratt on the Menglers Hill climb to win yesterday’s 102km stage in the Barossa Valley in South Australia. The Commonwealth Games gold medal favourite took the race lead from stage one winner Annette Edmondson, who finished more than a minute and 30 seconds behind.
