Sorell’s six-game win streak ends at the hands of Kingboroug­h

KINGBOROUG­H brought Sorell back to Earth in the Bowls Tasmania South Division One Women’s Pennant on Thursday, winning by 21 shots and ending Sorell’s sixgame winning streak.

The competitio­n’s leading skip, Leonie Price, set the win up for Kingboroug­h, defeating the equally in-form Jan Cowen by 23 shots. With Pauline Connell regularly finding the jack, Kathleen Page beat Leona Smith by four shots. Sorell won on the other rink, with Sandra Hawksley defeating new skip Greta Murray by six shots.

With less than 20 ends to play, New Norfolk was poised for an upset away win over Buckingham but the home side stormed back to finish four shots in front. With Maree Evans playing outstandin­g bowls in her debut Division One game for Buckingham, Alison Chamberlai­n finished too strongly for Leonie Hyland, winning by 12 shots.

New Norfolk won on the other two rinks, with Carol Banks-Smith beating June Guy by five shots, although Guy scored a decisive four shots on the last end to help Buckingham win. Lyn Triffitt beat Jeanette Lane by three shots.

Sandy Bay defeated Rosny Park by 26 shots, winning on all three rinks. Robyn Leggett beat Ailsa Milburn by 20 shots. Chris Dowl drew away for a five-shot win over Christine McGrath after a tight battle. Yvonne Buckley held a slender lead over Gaylene Ridgeway until the 15th end. Ridgeway won the next five ends to go two shots up before Buckley scored a single on the 20th end and then a two on the last to win by one.

Brighton scored a surprise four-shot win over Howrah. Val Lukasec defeated Charon Foster by four and Sue Grant beat Lynne McDougall by one. Howrah scored two points when Rosie Geeves defeated Judy Williams by one shot.

In a close contest, Claremont defeated Dover RSL by four shots. Judy Voss beat Barb Liddington by five shots and Rae Freestone beat Sonia Martyn by three. Dover RSL won on the other rink, with Carol Bannister downing Gaye Coleman by four shots.
