Quietly going about his business

CAN we have a bit of shush, please? Canberra comedian Daniel Connell is coming back to Hobart to headline Jokers Comedy Club next week.

Connell’s first foray into the world of comedy came via the 2009 Green Faces competition for emerging comedians, when he won the Canberra heat and placed third in the national final.

He soon became a regular at Canberra venues, before moving to Melbourne in 2010 and quickly establishing himself on that city’s comedy scene.

The following year Connell was hand-picked to perform in the Melbourne International Comedy Festival’s Comedy Zone showcase of up-andcoming Australian comics.

Since then Connell — who also writes for hit TV program The Project — has presented a new solo stand-up hour at every MICF, including last year’s acclaimed show Stacks On.

He recently premiered his new show, Bit of Shush, at Perth Fringe World.

Connell won plenty of new Hobart fans when he performed at Jokers Comedy Club last August, and even more when he returned in October as part of the Sydney Comedy Festival Roadshow.

At Jokers next week Connell will be joined by another rising star of the Melbourne comedy scene, Laura Dunemann, who has been seen on Offspring and Upper Middle Bogan, and heard on Triple R’s breakfast show.

Also featuring local support Tori Hodgman and guest host Mick Davies, Jokers Comedy Club will be held at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. Tickets are $22 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 6234 5998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
