Jay walking to his own beat

-

THE venue for acclaimed DJ Norman Jay’s first ever Tasmanian show has changed, with the London legend bringing the good times to Sandy Bay on Saturday night.

One of the most influential, respected and popular DJs of the past three decades, Jay is best known as the co-founder of the Good Times Sound System — which helped usher the house music era into the UK — and London pirate radio station KISS FM, which he started with fellow DJ Gordon Mac back in 1985.

Jay’s Shake ’n’ Fingerpop party crew were among the UK’s leading purveyors of early house music, and were responsible for the biggest and best warehouse parties ever staged in London at that time. Since then he has helped inspire generations of DJs around the globe.

He is renowned as an authority on black music and UK club culture, and in 2002 Queen Elizabeth II appointed him a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE), for “deejaying and services to music”.

Originally scheduled to be held in Bidencopes Lane in the CBD, the Little Laneway Fest has been moved and will now take place in and around The Metz in Sandy Bay, starting at 6pm on Saturday.

Norman Jay will perform a three-hour set, supported by DynOmite Drew and followed by the Metz DJs. Tickets are $10 (plus booking fee) pre-sale from

www.moshtix.com.au, or $15 at the door.
