Test aces back for title defence

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

IT’S double trouble for the Hobart Hurricanes in their BBL semi-final tonight with Marsh brothers Shaun and Mitchell coming in for the home side as the Perth Scorchers try to build their dynasty.

Test allrounder Mitchell says the Scorchers were hell bent on winning back-to-back titles and claim their fourth crown in five years.

“That would be amazing,” Marsh said.

“We’ve started to create our own piece of history here as the Perth Scorchers.

“Right now our record is unrivalled in the Big Bash and hopefully it can stay that way for a long time.”

Shaun has nothing to prove despite missing selection in the IPL auctions.

Both Shaun and Mitch scored two Test centuries in this summer’s Ashes series triumph against England.

“I think Shaun is done trying to prove people wrong and prove points, he’s just enjoying his cricket,” Mitchell said.

“He obviously would have liked to have gone to the IPL.

“But he’s had a good run — he’s played it for eight years.

“He can now look forward to going over to [Welsh county club] Glamorgan for a whole season.”

Shaun is likely to join Michael Klinger as the Scorchers opening pair, one of the best in the business, says Mitchell.

“It’s great the partnership that Shaun and Maxy [Klinger] have had over the past eight years,” he said.

“It has been phenomenal and would go close to being the best opening partnership in world cricket.

“We’re really looking forward to having him back and hopefully he can get a few runs for us.”

Marsh believes the Scorchers’ pace-heavy bowling attack can bring the Hurricanes undone.
