New Norfolk makes it seven wins on the trot

NEW Norfolk stretched its winning streak to seven games when it beat Buckingham by three shots in Bowls Tasmania South Premier Division on Saturday.

It was the first time New Norfolk had beaten Buckingham on its synthetic green.

With three roster games remaining, New Norfolk, Sandy Bay and Kingboroug­h are locked in an absorbing contest for the final two spots in the top four, while Brighton and Claremont meet in the second last round of the season with the loser likely to win the wooden spoon.

New Norfolk gradually got on top of Buckingham and looked set for an easy win before the home team fought back with the game in the balance until the final end.

Wayne Lampkin raced to an 11-shot advantage against Mick Taylor, eventually winning by 10 shots. Mitch Banks trailed Stuart Rees by seven shots after seven ends but won the next six ends to jump out to a six-shot lead before winning by 10. Buckingham won on the other two rinks. Ryan McCoull won his first game as a skip in Premier Division when he defeated Barry Bone by nine shots and Keghan Booth beat Kerry Hill by eight shots.

Claremont took a giant step towards avoiding relegation when it drew its game against Derwent City, earning a valu- able seven points. Craig Coad easily accounted for Grant Dudman by 21 shots and John Howard defeated Rod Turner by four shots. Derwent City’s Peter Bannister was too good for Ricky Maughan winning by 14 shots and John De Groot beat Alan Smith by 11 shots.

Rosny Park consolidat­ed its position at the top of the ladder with a convincing 36-shot win over Brighton. Lee Schraner defeated Greg Fehlberg by 19 shots, Paul Williamson beat Grant Wakefield by 14 shots and Mick Sweeney finished eight shots in front of Ricky Limbrick. Mick Daniels secured two points for Brighton when he defeated David Genford by five shots.

Glenorchy Rodman defeated Sandy Bay by 12 shots. Cam Tegg defeated David Douce by 12 shots, Josh Baker won a close game against Andrew Norris by five shots and Rod Turner beat Josh Tegg by four shots. Sandy Bay’s only winner was Josh Mabb, who beat Tony Vince by nine shots

Kingboroug­h won on three rinks to defeat Beltana.
