Johnstone back to lead Tassie in Adelaide titles

GOLF Tasmania recently announced the 2018 Tasmanian women’s team to contest the Australian Women’s Interstate Team Matches in Adelaide in May.

Ulverstone Golf Club’s Sarah Johnstone has again been named captain, her sixth year in this critical role.

Johnstone’s squad this year will include Tasmania Golf Club’s Georgia Milbourne and Launceston’s Zahara Lemon, along with young guns Hallie Meaburn of Royal Hobart and Lily Caelli of Prospect Vale, both making their second appearance in the state team.

The newcomer to the team is 14-year-old Tasmania Golf Club junior member Mackenzie Wilson. WOMEN’S TEAM: Lily Caelli (Prospect Vale), Sarah Johnstone (capt, Ulverstone), Zahara Lemon (Launceston), Hallie Meaburn (Royal Hobart), Georgia Milbourne (Tasmania), Mackenzie Wilson (Tasmania), Simon Weston (coach) and Zibeth Daubenton (manager, Royal Hobart). ROYAL Hobart’s Hallie Meaburn and Tasmania Golf Club’s Mackenzie Wilson will represent the state at the 2018 Australian Girls’ Interstate Teams Matches in April.

The two girls will combine with players from the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory to form a composite team for event. Each state is represente­d by six players with five players contesting singles match play each round in a round robin format.

The Australian Girls’ Interstate Teams Matches for the Burtta Cheney Cup is Australia’s premier girls’ amateur team golf championsh­ip. The series will be conducted at the Royal Perth Golf Club from April 15-17 and will be preceded by the Australian Girls’ Amateur from April 11-13. KINGSTON Beach Golf Club’s Jane Hyland won the Women’s Golf Tasmania South 18-Hole Open Cham- pionship on Sunday. The former Tasmanian women’s team member won the event conducted on her home track with a six-over-par round of 77.

Royal Hobart Golf Club junior Hallie Meaburn was second with an eight-over-par score of 79. Third place went to Tasmania Golf Club junior Mackenzie Wilson with 81.
