Relax and go with the Flo

-

GLASWEGIAN “Afrofuturist” Auntie Flo and his travel companions PLO Man and Hashman Deejay are sure to get the Animals Dancing at The Grand Poobah tomorrow night.

Helping take world music into the future, Auntie Flo (Brian d’Souza) is at the forefront of a new strand of club music that fuses electronic music with world music, along with the likes of Daphni, Four Tet, Romare and Sinkane.

Auntie Flo is founder of the popular Highlife parties that take place in Glasgow, London and Edinburgh, and is one member of the team behind the Autonomous Africa record label, which releases new music from the African diaspora.

He has appeared at big- time festivals including Glastonbury, T in the Park, Lovebox and Dimensions, and has remixed tracks for the likes of Chvrches and Crystal Fighters.

His 2012 mini-album Future Rhythm Machine marked him as one of the “most truly original production talents around” ( Crack Magazine), and saw Auntie Flo nominated for the SAY (Scottish Album of the Year) Award.

In 2015 Auntie Flo followed it up with the release of his debut album Theory of Flo, which was recorded in his home town of Glasgow, his current base in London, and during a tour of Havana, Cuba.

Theory of Flo made it into plenty of “album of the year’ lists — including the one compiled by DJ Mag, who gave the album a 9/10 review.

Auntie Flo will be joined in Hobart by the tag team of Hashman Deejay and PLO Man, who create tech house tunes together under the name Globex.

Animals Dancing presents Auntie Flo, Hashman Deejay, PLO Man and Andee Frost at The Grand Poobah from 10pm tomorrow. Tickets are $15 (plus booking fee) pre-sale from www.eventbrite.com.au
