Mel’s barking up the right tree

-

BRISBANE- BASED banterer Mel Buttle will be looking for some Valentine’s Day love from her Hobart fans when she returns to Jokers Comedy Club next week.

Buttle’s comedy career has gone from strength to strength since she was nominated for the Best Newcomer Award at the 2010 Melbourne International Comedy Festival.

After winning the Director’s Choice Award at the 2013 MICF, Buttle found further fame through her weekly column in Brisbane’s Courier Mail newspaper and a weekly spot on Triple J’s breakfast radio show.

She has also racked up a long list of television credits in recent years, including three seasons as co-host of The Great Australian Bake Off, plus appearances on The Project, This Week Live, Tractor Monkeys and It’s a Date.

But she is still most passionate about performing live stand-up comedy, and is about to hit the Australian festival circuit with her new solo show, Dog Bitch — described as “a dog lover’s ode to dogs and their owners”.

Despite growing up afraid of (and allergic to) dogs, Buttle works as a dog walker around Brisbane and owns a rescue dog, Lady Ruby April Longsocks Buttle Esquire The First.

Fans have been asking when Buttle would return to Jokers since she first appeared back in early 2016.

They needn’t wait any longer, with Buttle to headline the show at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. She will be joined by Tim Logan, Brent Watkinson and guest MC Dylan Hesp.

Tickets are $22 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au and Centertainment (phone 6234 5998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
