Glenorchy Rodman masters conditions to notch win

GLENORCHY Rodman ended New Norfolk’s sevengame winning streak in Bowls Tasmania South Premier Division on Saturday.

In a rain-interrupte­d game Glenorchy Rodman proved too strong.

With only nine shots in the game at the break, the home side picked up across the board to finish up winning on all rinks by 36 shots. With Kevin Lynema excelling in the lead spot, Tony Vince was the big winner over Barry Bone by 15 shots. And with Dave Sutton playing well, Luke Turner came from behind in his game against young gun Mitch Banks to win by eight shots.

Cam Tegg also came from behind to defeat Wayne Lamp- kin by nine shots, as did Josh Baker against Kerry Hill, winning by four shots.

Sandy Bay showed that it is a legitimate threat this season with a victory over ladder leader Rosny Park. After the break at 60 ends, Sandy Bay led by 10 shots, but Rosny Park pegged back the gap to take a narrow lead. It was then that Sandy Bay took the game beyond reach, handling the wet weather conditions better than the home team, winning by six.

Andrew Norris beat Lee Schraner by 20 shots, being Schraner’s first loss for the season, and Josh Mabb defeated David Genford by 13 shots. Rosny Park won on the other two rinks with Mick Sweeney defeating Brad Mabb by 20 shots and Connor Munnings beat Josh Tegg by seven shots.

Derwent City defeated Buckingham by five shots when rain stopped play with 14 ends remaining. John De Groot defeated Keghan Booth by five shots, Peter Bannister beat Andrew Chamberlai­n by four shots and Rod Turner was in front of Mick Taylor by the same margin. Ryan McCoull was Buckingham’s only winner defeating Craig Owen by eight shots.

Brighton took a huge step away from relegation when it defeated Beltana by one shot. Greg Fehlberg defeated Mick Coppleman by 13 shots and Grant Wakefield beat Keith Miller by five shots. Beltana’s winners were Nick Courto who defeated Mick Daniels by 12 shots and Shane Young who beat Ricky Limbrick by five shots.

Kingboroug­h defeated Claremont by 20 shots. Will Coad defeated John Howard by seven shots, Taelyn Male beat Alan Smith by six shots, Jason Fowler finished five shots in front of Jack Ellis and in the closest game of the day Ben Dayton beat Craig Coad by two shots.
