Joyful beach days back within reach

- Tanika Alexander Mornington

I AM a single mother to two children, a daughter with medical issues and a son with autism spectrum disorder, developmental delays and sensory issues. Because of Noah’s sensory issues, he runs away, has meltdowns and generally doesn’t cope very well in a lot of situations, For these reasons and safety he travels in a wheelchair. It is extremely difficult to access the community; parks, play centres and pools are most times impossible. The one place we could manage was the beach at South Arm.

Noah loves it, playing in the water, giggling and splashing. However we couldn’t get on to the beach with his wheelchair and he is way too heavy for me to carry. I researched beach chairs and the costs are between $6000 and $7000, way out of my price range. I was defeated and thought this is just another experience my little boy misses out on.

I contacted Tony from TADTas and he was excited and enthusiastic and extremely eager to help us. He even called into our house a day or two after my call to show me the wheels he had chosen for Noah’s beach buggy. The beach buggy has been amazing for Noah, it’s enabled us to have lots of fun and make lovely family memories. The people at TADTas make a huge difference to little people’s lives (and whole families).

A lot of children like my little man have it hard enough without losing a wonderful group like TADTas. Please don’t withdraw their funding.
