De Goey back in a world of trouble

- JON RALPH

JORDAN De Goey has privately conceded he might have to apply a season-long alcohol ban after his career was plunged into controversy again.

De Goey and his management will meet Pies bosses this morning and is expected to be heavily punished for a Saturday night drink-driving infraction.

The 21-year-old was said to be inconsolable after blowing 0.095 at a random breath test at Beaconsfield Parade in Port Melbourne at 8.25pm.

He immediately called Pies footy boss Geoff Walsh. His licence was immediately suspended and he was disqualified from driving for six months.

“Club officials will meet on Monday to determine how this matter will be addressed,” the club said in a statement. “The club will make no further comment on this matter until a decision has been made.”

News Corp has confirmed De Goey was on his green Pplates, which meant he was unable to drink any alcohol while driving his car. Yet inexplicably he decided to drive home after an afternoon or early evening of drinking.

Not only has it put the early rounds of the season in jeopardy, it will likely see the Pies postpone any contract talks until much later in the year. He could now take a significant financial hit from his tarnished reputation and games missed.

In the space of 11 months he has broken his hand in a pub fight, lied to the club about the origins of the injury, and blown nearly double the legal bloodalcohol limit. He is aware when he starts drinking he finds it hard to stop and might have to instigate a booze ban for the foreseeable future.
