Rosny Park triumphs in tight final prelude

- ROB McGUIRE

IN a preview of next week’s second semi-final, Rosny Park won a tight tussle against Glenorchy Rodman by seven shots in Bowls Tasmania South Premier Division on Saturday.

Despite the loss, Glenorchy Rodman was able to secure enough pennant points to retain top spot on the ladder and the advantage of a home rink.

Lee Schraner showed why he is the best player in Tasmania, setting up the win for Rosny Park with a blistering 20-shot win over Tony Vince, and Mick Sweeney defeated Josh Baker by four shots.

Glenorchy Rodman won on the other two rinks with Cam Tegg defeating Paul Williamson by 13 shots and Luke Turner finishing four shots in front of David Genford.

At home on its synthetic fortress, Buckingham defeated Kingborough by 15 shots.

After an even first half, Alvin Cooke was back to his best in defeating Taelyn Male.

Cooke led by six shots after 11 ends and never let Male into the game, eventually winning by 13 shots.

Ryan McCoull beat Jason Fowler by five shots and Keghan Booth and Will Coad played out a thrilling draw.

Coad led by four shots after 17 ends, but a five to Booth on the 21st end put Booth in front and both players went end for end after that with nothing separating them at the finish.

Ben Dayton was Kingbor- ough’s only winner, defeating Michael Taylor by three shots.

Dayton was in control all day and led by 14 shots after 21 ends until Taylor scored 11 shots in the last four ends to reduce the margin to three shots.

The remaining three games were washed out which resulted in a disappointing finish to the season for New Norfolk, which was a chance of grabbing a top-four finish had its game against Beltana gone ahead.

Claremont’s game was washed out but that didn’t stop it finishing last, resulting in it being relegated to Division One next season. Final ladder: Glenorchy Rodman 191, Rosny Park 189, Kingborough 155, Sandy Bay 154, New Norfolk 154, Buckingham 117, Beltana 100, Derwent City 82, Brighton 70, Claremont 48. MINOR premiers in other divisions were decided on Saturday as follows: Division 1 Howrah, Division 2 Howrah, Division 3 Glenorchy City, Division 4 Glenorchy City, Division 5 Cremorne, Division 6 Glenorchy Rodman, Division 7 Kingborough.
