Rosny Park on easy path to final

- ROB McGUIRE

PREMIERSHIP favourite Rosny Park defeated Glenorchy Rodman for the third time this season when it triumphed by 20 shots in the Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division Pennant second semi-final on Saturday.

But Glenorchy Rodman bounced back winning the preliminary final against Sandy Bay yesterday by 22 shots to earn a rematch with Rosny Park in the grand final on Sunday week.

Rosny Park travelled to Glenorchy Rodman for the second semi-final determined to avenge its surprise second semi-final loss to Kingborough last season.

The win was set up for Rosny Park by David Genford, who was too good for Tony Vince winning easily by 18 shots. The remaining games were close with Lee Schraner defeating Cam Tegg by six shots and Paul Williamson and Josh Baker playing a draw.

Luke Turner was Glenorchy Rodman’s only winner, defeating Mick Sweeney by four shots.

Reigning premier Kingborough was bundled out of the finals by a determined Sandy Bay, which finished strongly to win by 26 shots at Claremont. Brad Mabb defeated Will Coad by 12 shots and Josh Mabb beat Taelyn Male by nine shots.

The other two games were close with Andrew Norris finishing five shots in front of Ben Dayton and Josh Tegg and Jason Fowler playing an exciting draw.

The preliminary final was played at Buckingham with Sandy Bay taking it up to Rodman early before Cam Tegg took the game away from Sandy Bay. Tegg scored 19 shots in eight tens to take a 16-shot lead after 10 ends against Brad Mabb. Tegg kept the screws on all the game eventually thrashing Mabb by 20 shots.

The remaining games were close with Luke Turner coming from six shots down after 19 ends to defeat Josh Mabb by three shots. Josh Baker was five shots in front of Andrew Norris after 19 ends but only won one of the last six ends to hold on for a win by one shot. Sandy Bay won on the other rink with Josh Tegg jumping out to a 10-shot lead after seven ends against Tony Vince before Vince fought back to reduce the final margin to just two shots. WITH the Tasmanian State Triples Championships next weekend at Kingborough, the grand final will not be played until Sunday, March 18. All other grand finals will be played on Saturday, March 17.
