Tasting Huon sparks crowd delight

- ROGER HANSON

WITH more than 100 stalls A Taste of the Huon is expecting 25,000 visitors to the region over the two-day festival starting on Sunday.

The 26th festival at the Ranelagh Showground is set to deliver big things on food, wine, cider, fresh produce, arts and crafts and entertainment.

A Taste of the Huon president Rosemary Bennett said all stallholders must meet strict criteria, showcasing the best produce the Huon and Channel regions have to offer.

“This year, there are over 100 stalls attending the Taste. It really is a true celebration of the incredible produce we offer in this part of the world that’s continuing to put us on the map,” Mrs Bennett said.

“The Taste is run by hardworking volunteers and as we don’t receive government grants, rely heavily on the sponsors who contribute to making this event a success.”

The festival started in 1991 and has increased in size every year.

“We are seeing a large increase of people visiting the Huon Valley from interstate and overseas,” Mrs Bennett said.

The entertainment features old-school rocker and Daddy Cool frontman Ross Wilson on Sunday and local band The Wolfe Brothers on Monday.

A Taste of The Huon is on from 10am to 5.30pm on Sunday and 10am to 4.30pm on Monday. Tickets are available at the gate for $10 for adults, $5 for children aged 11 to 15 and $25 for a family pass.
