Tiger trophy on its way

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

IT’S not every day footy fans can get their hands on the AFL premiership cup, but Tiger fans can get up close and personal with Richmond’s grand final silverware at North Hobart Oval tomorrow.

The cup will be on display from 10am-1pm.

Richmond’s supporter group president Jess Benson and her dad Wayne O’Shannessy just can’t wait.

“It means so much to have the cup coming here for everyone to see,” Benson said.

“It’s so incredible to have the opportunity to see it up close.

“We saw it on grand final day, being at the grand final, but being able to hold it and maybe even give it a kiss, that will be pretty special.”

She said winning the premiership after a 37-year drought meant the world to Tiger fans.

“It meant so much to so many people — it made a lot of people very happy,” Benson said.

“I hadn’t seen a Richmond premiership in my lifetime so it was a once in a lifetime experience for me.

“It was an incredible moment, an incredible day and I’ll never forget it.”

Benson said there was a “huge” Tiger army in Tasmania.

“There’s a massive following of Richmond down here,” she said.

“It’s going to be a very exciting, very busy day.

“I hope everyone gets to come along and see the cup in person and get a photo.”

Benson’s prediction was for consecutive flags: “They are going to be awesome again this year.”
