These boofheads really have a can-do attitude

-

STOCK up the Esky and defrost some snags — Canberra boofheads The Vee Bees and techno blues duo White Knuckle Fever are set to sizzle across Tasmania this weekend.

Top blokes Tommo, Glenno and Simo formed The Vee Bees in 2000 after a few stubbies at a Queanbeyan backyard barbecue.

Combining classic Aussie pub rock with Ramones-style punk, the trio started belting out “grog rock” classics such as Whaddya Reckon About Me Ute, Beer O’Clock, Aussie Beef Snags, Drive Thru Bottlo and I’d Rather Be On A Brewery Tour.

Currently featuring Glenno (bass), Davo (guitar), Norro (vocals) and Neilo (drums), The Vee Bees have now hit the road with Sydney duo White Knuckle Fever.

WKF — former Circus Bizarre ring mistress Celia Curtis (vocals) and Machine Gun Fellatio founding member 3kShort (guitar) — combine elements of rockabilly, swamp blues, punk and dance music to create “a high-energy assault on decency” sure to appeal to fans of Lux Interior and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins.

“There isn’t anything better in this whole wide world than a good dose of boofhead rock ’n’ roll,” Vee Bees guitarist Davo says, “and we’re happy to say that the rock ’n’ roll we play is played for boofheads, by boofheads.

“White Knuckle Fever also has an equally high-energy, good-time, dancing-on-the-bar type of vibe happening too. So when it came time to think of who to invite on our first ever trip to Tassie it was a no-brainer — which is lucky since we’re all brainless boofheads.”

The Vee Bees and White Knuckle Fever’s Vee Beever Fever tour makes two stops in Tassie this weekend: at the Gunners Arms in Launceston from 9.30pm tomorrow (with The Prickly Grapes); and at Hobart’s Brisbane Hotel from 9.30pm on Saturday (with The Dead Maggies, The Dreggs and Ultra Martian). Tickets are $10 (plus booking fee) pre-sale from www.oztix.com.au, or $15 at the door.
