When it comes to jazz, you couldn’t Pask for more

-

THE Spiegeltent is set to swing to the sultry sounds of acclaimed Australian jazz vocalist Emma Pask this weekend.

Now firmly established as one of the country’s favourite jazz voices, Pask was first discovered by famed trumpeter James Morrison when she was just 16 years old. The pair have now been performing together for more than 20 years.

Pask won the prestigious Mo Award for Jazz Vocalist of the Year in 2006 — the same year she performed at Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s wedding.

Her albums Some Other Spring, Cosita Divina and the ARIA Award-nominated Season of My Heart all topped the national jazz charts.

She has sung in London’s Queen Elizabeth Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra; at the Sydney Opera House with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; in China with the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra; in Auckland with the New Zealand Philharmonic; at the Phillips International Jazz Festival in Kuala Lumpur; and at the Ascona Jazz Festival in Switzerland.

In 2013 Pask was a contestant on series two of The Voice, impressing coach Ricky Martin by performing Mas Que Nada in both English and Portuguese. She has also been seen on Channel 9’s Carols by Candlelight concert; makes regular appearances on Today and Mornings; and has co- hosted Studio 10.

Singing a mix of swinging jazz standards, upbeat Latin numbers, tender ballads and raucous blues tunes, Emma Pask performs in the Spiegeltent on the Hobart waterfront from 6.30pm on Saturday. Tickets are $45, $40 concession, go to www.spiegeltenthobart.com for bookings.
