Revenge so sweet

- ROB McGUIRE

GLENORCHY Rodman avenged its loss to Rosny Park in the second semi-final when it led from start to finish in Bowls Tasmania South’s Premier Division Saturday Pennant grand final yesterday to beat Rosny Park by 15 shots.

With a large and vocal crowd supporting the northern suburbs side, Glenorchy Rodman never looked like losing.

It was a game that was played in difficult conditions on a slow green at Sandy Bay following early morning rain.

A late comeback by Rosny Park reduced the margin to single figures, however a six to Luke Turner on his 23rd end snuffed out any chance of an unlikely Rosny Park victory.

With Danny Gahan leading well, Luke Turner jumped out to a 10-shot lead after 15 ends against Mick Sweeney.

Sweeney reduced the margin to just three shots with four ends to go, but Turner rallied, scoring 12 shots on the next three ends and won by 13 shots.

Assisted by Grant Allford, Josh Baker outclassed Paul Williamson. Baker won five of the first six ends to jump to a five-shot lead which he extended to 12 shots after 14 ends.

The closest game of the day was between Cam Tegg and David Genford. After an even first half Tegg won four ends in a row to lead by six shots after 14 ends. Genford bounced back winning the next five ends to level the scores. A five to Genford on the 22nd saw him hit the front only to see Tegg win the last two ends to draw.

Rosny Park won on the other rink with Lee Schraner bowling brilliantly to defeat Tony Vince by nine shots.

In other Saturday Pennant grand finals: HOWRAH had an easy 52shot win over Dover RSL in Division 1.

GLENORCHY Rodman defeated top-side Howrah by one shot in Division 2. GLENORCHY City beat Buckingham by eight shots in Division 3. GLENORCHY City got over the line in a thriller by a shot on the final bowl of the day against Kingborough in Division 4. HOWRAH beat Sandy Bay by three shots in Division 6, and KINGBOROUGH had a comfortable 30-shot win over Dover RSL in Division 7.
