Class act still working

-

AUSSIE rock legend Jimmy Barnes has already sold out 28 shows on his new Working Class Man: An Evening of Stories & Songs national tour — including three of the four he’s performing across Tasmania this week.

But Hobart fans still have a chance to see Barnes on Saturday night, as he shares his life story and sings stripped-back versions of songs that have helped shape his journey.

Working Class Man: An Evening of Stories & Songs is the sequel to the acclaimed live show Barnes performed in conjunction with the release of his first memoir, Working Class Boy, which revealed the previously untold details of Barnes’ profoundly troubled childhood.

Working Class Boy won the ABIA Award for the Best Biography of 2016, and was Australia’s highest-selling non-fiction title of the year.

Working Class Man, which went straight to No.1 on the charts upon its release last October, covers Barnes’ entire adult life, revealing all the successes and excesses of the Cold Chisel frontman’s rock ’n’ roll story.

Barnes performed the Working Class Boy show more than 40 times across Australia and New Zealand, winning him a Sydney Theatre Award and a Helpmann Award nomination along the way.

“After the Working Class Boy tour I’m really excited to take the Working Class Man tour out on the road,” Barnes says.

“Come and see us and learn how that childhood affected the rest of my life — you could be in for a shock.”

Jimmy Barnes kicked off the Tasmanian leg of his Working Class Man: An Evening of Stories & Songs tour with a sold-out show in Devonport last night, and performances in Launceston tonight and tomorrow have also both sold out.

Tickets are still available to see Barnes in action at Wrest Point from 8pm on Saturday. Tickets are $101.78, go to www.ticketmaster.com.au or phone 136 100 for bookings.
