JOKERS Comedy Club is doubling down with a French-Canadian tag team next week, with international headliners DeAnne Smith and Marcel Lucont performing an exclusive one-off show together.

DeAnne Smith exploded on to the Canadian comedy scene in 2005 and has gone on to receive critical acclaim and numerous awards from festivals around the world.

Renowned as one of Canada’s funniest people, she has been seen on TV programs ranging from Last Comic

Standing and Craig Ferguson’s Late Late Show, to the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala and Good News Week. Smith became a huge fan favourite when she performed at the Hobart Comedy Festival back in 2010, and now she is finally returning to the city for one night only.

She will perform at Jokers the night before she starts the Melbourne International Comedy Festival season of her new show, Worth It.

Smith will be joined in Hobart by French “flaneur, raconteur and bon viveur” Marcel Lucont — who is, in his own opinion, “easily the greatest French comedian in Australia at the moment”.

Hailed by The Guardian as “fresh, accessible and hilarious”, UK-based Lucont has entertained audiences around the world with his “dry wit, bawdy chansons and exquisite sex poetry”.

Lucont is bringing his award-winning brand of improvised madness to Jokers before also heading to the MICF, where he’ll perform his new show, Whine List.

Joined by host Gavin Baskerville, DeAnne Smith and Marcel Lucont will each perform a full solo show for Jokers Comedy Club at The Polish Corner in New Town from 8pm on Wednesday. Tickets are $22 pre-sale from www.jokerscomedy.com.au or Centertainment (phone 6234 5998), or $25 at the door (if not already sold out).
