Fitness experts share key to fun run success
THE City to Casino is just around the corner, but there is still plenty of time to get race ready, fitness guru Guy Franklin says.
The Mercury has teamed up with Mr Franklin and Terry Moore, of All Aerobics, to create an eight-week plan to get you ready for Tasmania’s biggest fun run on May 20.
Mr Franklin hopes the 46th edition this year will be the biggest and best City to Casino yet.
“It’s all about participation, getting people active and healthy and fit,” Mr Franklin said. “The record for participation is 4700, and it would be really nice to top 5000 this year.”
The eight-week program will help participants of all abilities prepare for the “iconic” event.
Participants can chose between an 11km run, a 7km run or walk, and the 2.7km event for families and children.
Mr Franklin said the train- ing program suited both walkers and runners.
“It doesn’t matter what your starting point is, we’ll be able to help,” he said. “There’s an event that will suit anyone.
“Where people tend to be a little bit nervous doing something for the first time, it’s a real buzz when you actually finish it.”
Mr Franklin said two months was plenty of time to prepare for the fun run.
He said the training program would make a big difference for people.
“If they follow the program as we set it, they will definitely improve from where they are now to when they participate in the event,” he said.
“You’ll find by putting in the effort, you’ll get the results.”
