Andrew gets right royal invite

- HELEN KEMPTON

MANY Tasmanian royal watchers can only dream of a ringside seat at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding in May.

And one Tasmanian man has been offered just that.

Andrew Jenner, a former Mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor, who now lives in Hobart, has been invited to join a select crowd at Guildhall in Windsor’s High St, to watch the royal wedding procession pass by.

He is now waiting to see if an invitation to be part of the actual wedding ceremony comes through.

“I have been invited as an ex-mayor to watch the procession from this special place — my office — but don’t know yet, nor especially expect, if I have been invited to the ceremony itself,’ Mr Jenner said yesterday.

“Guildhall was originally used as a corn exchange where people would exchange corn for money.”

The restricted area next to High St could hold about 150 people but Mr Jenner expects access will be a lot more select on Harry and Meghan’s wedding day.

“I need to go back to Windsor in August anyway so I am unsure if I will return in May.

If I am invited to the ceremony that might change.

Guildhall is about 100m from Castle Hill, which leads to the main public entrance to Windsor Castle. The wedding itself will take place in St George’s Chapel, inside the castle grounds at midday.

At 1pm, a carriage procession will travel along a route including Castle Hill, High St, Sheet St, Kings Rd, Albert Rd, Long Walk and back to Winsdor Castle.

Mr Jenner is no stranger to royalty, estimating he has met the Queen at least 16 times.
