BACK TO FUTURE

- BRETT STUBBS

IF anyone deserves stability, it is North Hobart captain Hugh Williams.

Williams has ridden the roller coaster of the TSL more than anyone, having been at the Demons since 2010, through the proposed North Hobart-Hobart merger, the transition to Hobart City and now finally the return to North Hobart.

Now, in his sixth-year as skipper and also a playing assistant coach, he hopes all this is behind him and he can focus on leading the young Demons to the next era of North Hobart success.

“It has been a pretty interesting five or six years to be honest,” Williams, 28, said. “There has been a lot of change and a lot of off-field stuff that you hope you don’t have to deal with but you do the best you can and be positive for the football club.”

He has never had more confidence in the future of the one of Australia’s most successful clubs. “I feelel like the football clubb has been a really good placel to bbe andd that’s h ’ from the board down to the playing group,” he said. “It feels like we are back home. “It is good not to have to worry about any questions about Hobart City or North Hobart and we can set our path now. It is finalised and we can move forward.”

Being someone who has lived through this tumultuous period for the Demons, he believes the right decision has been made.

“As an old North Hobart boy I was kkeen ffor iit to go bback,k but that’s not saying anything about Hobart City,” Williams said.

“You gave the same effort regardless but I think it is good for the outside and the wider football community that North Hobart is back, and it probably righted some wrongs from four or five years ago.”

North Hobart’s first game will be on Good Friday against the Tigers at North Hobart Oval starting at 3.05pm.
