REBECCA VAN ASCH LAWN BOWLS

REBECCA Van Asch started playing lawn bowls in 1998 and made her debut for Australia in 2011. Rebecca won the 2017 World Outdoor Bowls Championsh­ip in the women’s fours and triples events and is now a three-time World Champion. She was also the first Tasmanian to win an Australian Indoor Bowls Championsh­ips in the event’s 30-year history.

KAITLYN FASSINA WEIGHTLIFT­ING

FASSINA returns to weightlift­ing after the birth of her daughter stronger than ever. In March 2017, she competed at the Australian Internatio­nal and placed 3rd overall in the 90+kg division. Fassina won her division (90+kg) at the National Championsh­ips in June, lifting a total of 223kg. By September, she had dropped down to the 90-kg division

HAMISH PEACOCK JAVELIN

PEACOCK has competed in three World Championsh­ips, the Rio Olympics and this will be his second Commonweal­th Games. He won a bronze at the 2014 Games. Hamish is the sixth-best Australian of all time in the javelin. His throw of 82.47m at the world titles last year was record by an Australian at the Olympics or World Championsh­ips.

AMY CURE TRACK CYCLING

CURE is a two time World Champion, four time Junior World Champion, Commonweal­th Games medallist and Olympian. She claimed her first elite World Championsh­ip title in 2012 in the points race. She went on to secure a silver and bronze medal at the 2014 Commonweal­th Games. Cure won gold at the 2015 World Championsh­ips in the team pursuit.

GEORGIA BAKER TRACK CYCLING

BAKER will be making her Commonweal­th Games debut and returning from a serious heart scare . In 2011 and 2012 Georgia claimed back-to-back under-19 World Titles as part of the team pursuit, these results highlighte­d her credential­s as a future track star. Georgia first raced in senior competitio­n at the 2016 World Championsh­ips, and at 2016 Olympic Games.

EDDIE OCKENDEN HOCKEY

OCKENDEN is set to make his third Commonweal­th Games appearance with his selection in the men’s hockey team, looking to add a gold medal to the two he won in Scotland and India.

Eddie, a former Internatio­nal Player of the Year nominee and triple Olympian goes into the Commonweal­th Games with over 300 caps for the Kookaburra­s.

JEREMY EDWARDS HOCKEY

EDWARDS will be making his Commonweal­th Games debut on the Gold Coast as one of the new breed of Kookaburra­s. He moved up from the national developmen­t squad into the Kookaburra­s in 2017. Despite only being relatively new to the team, he has already won gold with the Kookaburra­s at the top internatio­nal level.
