REBECCA VAN ASCH LAWN BOWLS
REBECCA Van Asch started playing lawn bowls in 1998 and made her debut for Australia in 2011. Rebecca won the 2017 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in the women’s fours and triples events and is now a three-time World Champion. She was also the first Tasmanian to win an Australian Indoor Bowls Championships in the event’s 30-year history.
KAITLYN FASSINA WEIGHTLIFTING
FASSINA returns to weightlifting after the birth of her daughter stronger than ever. In March 2017, she competed at the Australian International and placed 3rd overall in the 90+kg division. Fassina won her division (90+kg) at the National Championships in June, lifting a total of 223kg. By September, she had dropped down to the 90-kg division
HAMISH PEACOCK JAVELIN
PEACOCK has competed in three World Championships, the Rio Olympics and this will be his second Commonwealth Games. He won a bronze at the 2014 Games. Hamish is the sixth-best Australian of all time in the javelin. His throw of 82.47m at the world titles last year was record by an Australian at the Olympics or World Championships.
AMY CURE TRACK CYCLING
CURE is a two time World Champion, four time Junior World Champion, Commonwealth Games medallist and Olympian. She claimed her first elite World Championship title in 2012 in the points race. She went on to secure a silver and bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. Cure won gold at the 2015 World Championships in the team pursuit.
GEORGIA BAKER TRACK CYCLING
BAKER will be making her Commonwealth Games debut and returning from a serious heart scare . In 2011 and 2012 Georgia claimed back-to-back under-19 World Titles as part of the team pursuit, these results highlighted her credentials as a future track star. Georgia first raced in senior competition at the 2016 World Championships, and at 2016 Olympic Games.
EDDIE OCKENDEN HOCKEY
OCKENDEN is set to make his third Commonwealth Games appearance with his selection in the men’s hockey team, looking to add a gold medal to the two he won in Scotland and India.
Eddie, a former International Player of the Year nominee and triple Olympian goes into the Commonwealth Games with over 300 caps for the Kookaburras.
JEREMY EDWARDS HOCKEY
EDWARDS will be making his Commonwealth Games debut on the Gold Coast as one of the new breed of Kookaburras. He moved up from the national development squad into the Kookaburras in 2017. Despite only being relatively new to the team, he has already won gold with the Kookaburras at the top international level.
