14-year-old Meaburn makes her mark in Adelaide

TASMANIANS were in action last week at the Men’s Golf SA Amateur Classic and Women’s Rene Erichsen Salver at Royal Adelaide Golf Club.

Royal Hobart Golf Club’s Hallie Meaburn was the best of the Tasmanian women. The 14-year-old carded scores of 77, 76, 80 and 84, a total of 317 to finish in outright 17th position.

Prospect Vale Golf Club’s Lily Caelli also teed up for the women’s event but failed to make the cut for the final two rounds with scores of 81 and 80. Queensland’s Rebecca Kay defended her Rene Erichsen Salver title finishing eightunder for the championsh­ip.

Prospect Vale’s Ryan Thomas and Ronan Filgate, and Devonport’s Josh Molendyk teed up for the men’s event, the Golf SA Amateur Classic. Thomas was the best of the trio, finishing equal 43rd on 13-over after rounds of 75, 72, 79 and 75. Molendyk and Filgate both missed the cut. Nineteen-year-old Min Woo Lee completed a stunning second half of the event, trickling in an eagle putt on the ninth hole to power a 67-67 finish and win by six strokes. SOUTHERN Pennant was conducted last Sunday with Tasmania hosting Kingston Beach and Royal Hobart in the second round of the division one triangular series.

Tasmania Golf Club bridged the gap on the overall standings with a 6-1 win over Kingston Beach in the morning. Best for Tasmania were Brett Geeves playing No.4 and defeating Andrew Brient 7&6, and No.5 Matthew Cross beating Cam Johnson by the same.

Other notable performanc­es were Paul Read defeating Gus Burrell 6&5, Richard Kube beating Shaun Smith 3&2 and Andrew Phillips defeating Matthew Glover 2&1.

Kingston Beach’s sole win of the morning was Craig Garland beating Tasmania junior member Timothy Smith 5&4.

The lads from Barilla Bay continued their winning ways in the afternoon by defeating Royal Hobart Golf Club 4½-2½. Read and Geeves were again the best for Tasmania in the afternoon, defeating Justin Smith 7&6 and William Barnak 5&4 respective­ly.

For Royal Hobart, Dan Marsh defeated Andrew Phillips 2-up, Kyle Spruce beat Matthew Cross 1-up and Matthew Blackburn squared his No.2 match with Richard Kube.

Tasmania narrowly sits in first place with two contests and 13½ match wins followed by Royal Hobart in second and Kingston Beach third. THE third round of Women’s Golf Tasmania-South division one pennant was conducted last weekend with Tasmania hosting Royal Hobart.

Tasmania capitalise­d on its home course advantage with a 3½-1½ match victory over Royal Hobart. Best for Tasmania were Julia Goss beating Karen Bannister 4&3 and Helen Langenberg over Carol Gill 5&4. Mackenzie Wilson squared her match with Zibeth Daubenton, as did Lesley Bick and Emma Hayter, and Sue Saunders and Debbie Taylor. Claremont is first overall. admin@golftasman­ia.org.au
