TASMANIAN TIGERS REPORT CARD FOR 2017-18

-

GEORGE BAILEY, B- (602 runs at 33.4): Not the captain’s most dominant season with the bat, but still managed one century and five half-centuries.

GABE BELL, A (24 wickets at 19.8): Had a stellar season until he injured his foot in the first game after Christmas. Will lead the attack for the next 10 years.

JACKSON BIRD, A (37 wickets at 21.8): Another standout campaign from the fringe Test seamer. Was runner-up in the shield player of the year award.

ALEX DOOLAN, C+ (555 runs at 32.6): Take out his unbeaten 247 against Victoria and 82 not out in the final and it shows a very lean year for the opener.

JAKE DORAN, A (756 runs at 44.4): Came of age in his third season in Tasmania. Notched his maiden shield century — and had two other scores in the 90s.

ANDREW FEKETE, B (22 wickets at 29.9): Only played one game before Christmas; recalled when Bell when down. Starred with 10 wickets against Victoria.

BEN McDERMOTT, C- (247 runs at 27.4): Unable to solidify his spot in the side and managed only one halfcentury for the summer.

SIMON MILENKO, A- (245 runs at 30.6, 14 wickets at 28): Backed up his breakthrough 2016-17 campaign with a host of important contributions. Proved a dangerous partnership breaker with the ball.

SAM RAINBIRD, B (35 wickets at 31.8): Another great season. Still occasionally struggles with no-balls, which cost him more wickets. TOM ROGERS, A+ (324 runs at 24.9, 37 wickets at 18.3): The find of the competition. Batting improved each match; was the Tigers’ equal leading wicket-taker. JORDAN SILK, B+ (566 runs at 40.4): Returned to the form that had him touted as one of the country’s up-and-coming stars. MATTHEW WADE, A (654 runs at 43.6, 37

catches): Roared back to form with three centuries in the second half of the shield season to showcase his batting class, while his glovework was sharp.

BEAU WEBSTER, C (363 runs at 25.9): Not the best season from the talented right-hander. Slip fielding was exceptional, equalling the most catches by a fielder in shield history (23).
