Welcome to planet Webb
CAPTIVATING Adelaide acoustic singer-songwriter Mary Webb brings her subtle guitar sounds and sweet vocals to Hobart next week, as she tours to launch her latest album.
Last month Webb released her second solo album Love Like Planets, which explores the complexities of modern relationships and is designed to be listened to as a whole piece of work rather than a collection of singles.
“Most of the songs on Love Like Planets I wrote during a personally turbulent time in my late 20s,” she explains. “I had ended a long-term relationship and was going through a painful process of trying to rediscover who I was and what I wanted.”
Webb released the first single from Love Like Planets in January — an ode to the tenacious bond shared by sisters, called Gecko Fingers.
“Growing up with seven years between my sister and I in age, we had a lot of love for each other but there was also a lot of anger and conflict. As adults we are very close, and have come to a calm understanding of each other. I have reflected a lot on how we managed to transform our relationship.
“It is a fun song to play and sing, and it’s also a positive reminder to me of the bond we have.”
Mary Webb launches Love Like Planets with two Hobart-area shows next week: at The Homestead in North Hobart on Thursday, April 5; and at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed in Grove on Friday, April 6. Entry is free; phone the venues for details.
