First step to fitness goal

- STEPHANIE NEWINGTON

SINCE hanging up his football boots in 1987, Steven Schade has been a busy man.

He played in Glenorchy’s Tasmanian State League premiership triumph in 1985 but soon his priorities shifted.

“Family and work became more important from there,” he said.

Steven, a property valuer with Herron Todd White, has been looking to improve his fitness with wife Julie by his side.

“I’ve been on a bit of a hiatus in terms of fitness.

“As you get older you look at things a little bit differently. A lot of the time fitness ends up fitting around everything else in your life.”

Eager to change that, Steven and Julie signed up to All Aerobics Fitness.

“People at the gym start talking about events and encourage you to get into it.”

Steven said this was the case for the RACT City to Casino Fun Run and Walk.

This year marks Steven and Julie’s first City to Casino event and they have registered for the 7km walk from Cornelian Bay. The couple are completing a 12-week guided program in the lead-up to the fun run.

Guy Franklin, of All Aerobics Fitness, said he was excited at the amount of people taking up the challenge for the 46th annual run.

“It’s one of those events people come back to with a goal to work towards, that’s the beauty of it,” he said.

Steven is also hopeful this new mindset will continue long after the event. “For us it’s a bit of fun with like-minded people but, who knows, it might kickstart entering some similar events for us. There’s a few around these days.”

Entries for the fun run close on Friday, May 18.
