Harry, Meghan miss royal church service

- ELLEN WHINNETT

THE Queen has joined members of the royal family for an Easter church service at Windsor Castle — but grandson Prince Harry and his fiancee Meghan Markle were not in attendance.

The royals gathered at the medieval St George’s Chapel inside the grounds of the castle at Windsor for the traditional Easter Mattins (morning) service.

Prince William and his heavily pregnant wife Catherine, who is expecting their third baby later this month, joined the service.

Catherine wore a smart black coat and pillbox hat with pearl earrings and a brooch, while the 91-year-old Queen livened up a grey London day with a bright pink, or cerise, coat, dress and flowered hat.

The monarch was handed posies by young wellwishers who had gathered outside the church.

Another royal who is expecting a baby shortly, Zara Tindall, was in attendance, as was Prince Edward, his wife Sophie, and their daughter Lady Louise Windsor.

Two of the Queen’s children, Prince Andrew and Princess Anne, joined the service but Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were absent, as they are on their way to Australia for the Commonwealth Games in Queensland.

Prince Philip did not attend due to ongoing medical problems with his hip.

The 96-year-old Prince Philip has now missed three events in the past 10 days, but royal watchers are not overly concerned as he has retired from public life.
