Rising Suns all singing from same song sheet

- ANDREW HAMILTON

TOM Lynch says the Suns couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2018, but the memory of previous false dawns kept the celebrations of a 2-0 start to the season to a single rendition of the team song.

Lynch played a starring role in Gold Coast’s 34-point victory over Carlton on Saturday with a personal best haul of 8.1.

But just like he refused to get too carried away by victories over the Kangaroos and Carlton, tipped to be among the cellar dwellers, nor was he going overboard about his performance.

“It was nice to get on the end of a few, I was goalless the week before,’’ he said.

“I don’t think it was the best game I’ve ever played in any way, I didn’t take a lot of marks, but that’s the nature of footy.

“I’ve had days that I think I’ve played better but not had a huge impact on the scoreboard. The ball bounces your way sometimes, so I’ll take it when it comes because I don’t expect I’m going to kick eight goals every week.’’

The 25-year-old is the biggest free agent in the competition and has made it clear he will take his time making any decision on his future.

He wants to see hope for the future from the Suns and there has been plenty of that on display over the opening two rounds.

Gold Coast now heads to Perth for a week where it plays Fremantle and then West Coast at the new Domain Stadium.

“If you get ahead of yourself in AFL you get found out quickly,’’ Lynch said.
