Milbourne leads the Tasmanian charge at Classic

- STUART EATON

TASMANIA Golf Club’s Georgia Milbourne and Prospect Vale’s Lily Caelli took on some of Australia’s best at the Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic from March 26-28.

Milbourne, 19, was the bestperformed of the pair at Cottesloe Golf Club in Western Australia, carding 76, 79, 74 and 73 to finish seventh.

Caelli struggled during the Golf Australia women’s order of merit event but finished 29th with scores of 94, 88, 82 and 93. Queensland’s Becky Kay clinched back-to-back Bowra & O’Dea Women’s Classic titles after a blistering final round of 67. Kay finished seven shots ahead of Victoria’s Stephanie Bunque in her wire-to-wire victory at Cottesloe.

New South Wales’ Doey Choi and Western Australia’s Kirsten Rudgeley were a further three-shots back.

The Classic victory means Kay completed a trio of tournament wins, with the Riversdale Cup and Rene Erichsen Salver also in her 2018 trophy cabinet.

The win also sees Kay reach the summit of the Karrie Webb Series, overtaking Victoria’s Grace Kim in the official standings. THE 2018 Holden Scramble regional finals were conducted recently at the Claremont Golf Club.

Launceston Golf Club teams won both the men’s and women’s finals.

Daniel Smith, Greg Longmore, Daniel Murray, Andrew Swain and Daniel Harris will contest the men’s championship final at the Twin Waters Golf Club from May 19-21.

And Smith, Julie Peltzer, Susie Bezette, Angie Bowden and Helen Palmer will at the same time challenge for the women’s title. ENTRY forms are now available for a fundraising ambrose day being conducted at the Tasmania Golf Club on Friday April 13.

The event will offer great on-course events such as super pins, yellow tee advancements, mulligans, raffles and some great prizes.

Gold and platinum team entries are available, however a standard team entry of four will attract a fee of $180, while an individual entry will cost $50 per person.
