TSL PLAYER FACES LIFE BAN OVER DANGEROUS TACKLE

- JAMES BRESNEHAN

LAUDERDALE’ S Jordan Roberts could be deregistered as a footballer for life tonight if the TSL tribunal upholds his two-match suspension for a dangerous tackle.

The talented Bomber was one of four players investigated by the match review panel yesterday for incidents across the opening round of games.

Following a six-match suspension for a dangerous tackle on Launceston player Stewart Williams in Round 13 last season, Roberts drew the wrath of the MRP for a tackle on Clarence ruckman Wade Wall in their clash on Saturday.

The MRP finding said: “The tackle was careless, with low impact to the body. The match review panel also gave strong consideration for the potential to cause serious injury. Player Roberts has been offered a base sanction of two matches, reduced to one match with an early guilty plea. Player Roberts’s base sanction includes a one-match loading due to a poor record.”

Roberts is already on the 15game limit for suspensions.

One more and he could be deregistered for life.

That means the tribunal must dismiss the charge for him to continue playing football at any level. Lauderdale will have the option to appeal the tribunal decision if it does not find in favour of its player.

Lauderdale’s interim coach Clinton Brown said the club was aware of the situation. “It’s a very important tribunal hearing for the club,” he said.

“A young man’s playing future is on the line.

“It would be a shame if he got deregistered for something like that.”

The only other player suspended was Launceston’s Jake Hinds (one match) for striking North Launceston’s Bart McCulloch.
