TRICK OF THE TRE

- JAMES KITTO

BASKETBALL’S back tonight and the Hobart Chargers men’s and women’s SEABL teams tip off against Kilsyth at the Derwent Entertainment Centre. The men’s team will unveil some exciting new talent, including Tre Nichols (pictured) and ex-Melbourne United gun Craig Moller.

THE last piece of the Hobart Chargers puzzle has arrived in Tasmania as the club embarks on a charge towards a SEABL championship.

Fresh off his NBL title win with Melbourne United, Craig Moller touched down in Hobart yesterday to join his new Chargers teammates ahead of tonight’s game against Kilsyth.

Moller, a 203cm former AFL player for Fremantle, will combine on court with fellow new recruit Tre Nichols and international star Mathiang Muo to form a trio coach Anthony Stewart believes will excite fans.

“The difference between our list this year compared to last is we’ve really improved our athleticism,” Stewart said.

“The entertaining side of things now is that the guys who we’ve brought in play above the rim, so it’s going to be really exciting to watch.”

Despite winning the NBL title with Melbourne United less than a week ago, Moller, 23, said he’s ready to jump straight into SEABL action.

“The good thing about the NBL just finishing has meant I haven’t needed a pre-season or any time to get ready — I can just roll straight into it,” Moller said.

“I’m absolutely 100 per cent ready to go and excited to see where this team can go.”

Moller will run out with his new teammates tonight in a game coach Stewart believes will be no easy task.

“They [Kilsyth] are a highquality group so we’re going to have to play extremely well to keep this game close,” Stewart said. “If I had to pick my favourite team in the competition to win the championship it’s Kilsyth right now, so it should be a good game.”

The Chargers begin the season by hosting Kilsyth at 8pm tonight at the Derwent Entertainment Centre in Hobart, straight after the women’s Chargers clash with the same club at 6pm.
