Fun run a team effort

- PATRICK GEE

CITY to Casino veteran Alyssa Smart has enjoyed the challenges and accomplishment of competing in the annual fun run several times.

But this time she is not just doing it for herself.

She will be leading a group of first-time fun runners to the finish line of the 7km course.

Ms Smart, an instructor at All Aerobics Fitness, said a number of her clients had signed up for the event.

“I’m just going to get them over the line this year,” she said. “It’s not about me, it’s about supporting them.”

Ms Smart is a keen runner and has completed “quite a few marathons”.

“I just love going to the gym and I enjoy the social aspect of running,” she said.

Ms Smart is the leader of the Run Squad at All Aerobics Fitness, which she said promoted a healthy mind and body. Many of the Run Squad members joined the group with the aim of getting ready to take on the RACT City to Casino Fun Run and Walk.

Ms Smart said 12-20 people turn up for the group runs each Tuesday.

“And we’ve just got togeth- er a little group who haven’t done a fun run before, so that’s exciting, and it would be great to get them over the line this year,” she said.

Joining a group makes it easier to take up running, Ms Smart said.

“It’s good to have motivating people and that team spirit around you,” she said.

“We’re all very supportive, even the members of the run group are so supportive of anyone who comes along.”

The All Aerobics Fitness Run Squad is open to people of all abilities and information can be found on the website — www.allaerobics.com.au.

Entries for the fun run close on Friday, May 18.
