WHY are we not considering the human element with Airbnb? Now Tasmania holds the top ranking for Airbnb infiltration, we should consider the social impact. How will you feel if your next door neighbour with their big house goes up for sale? Will you enjoy having regular weekend party central so close? After all the tenants don’t need to think hard about the consequences of their actions, they are gone the next day anyway. Neighbourhood Watch will diminish as fewer homeowners live in the area. The Safe Homes project where small children have sanctuary on the way to and from school will lessen. How will you enjoy locating a missing dog or cat when so many people in your street are temporary and thus cannot or are not interested in helping you? Forget trying to loan a cup of sugar. second tier Olympics. They are just another corporate event where spin doctors, lawyers and bureaucrats take gold. They didn’t have the glamour and elite competition of the Olympics but they had a delightful retro appeal, like a church fete in a small country town. It can’t inspire us any more. It has run its race. military enemies and there is little need to involve itself in wars overseas. Australia needs to look to its own future, maintaining friendly relationships with those with whom we trade, expand our South East Asian markets and friendships and perhaps withdraw slightly from our relationships with England and the US, instead of being the perpetual little brother to them.
