GYMNASTICS

Women’s All-Around, 9.09am Gold Coast-born and raised Georgia Godwin (pictured right) was the second-highest ranked Commonweal­th gymnast in last year’s world championsh­ips in Canada with a standout 13th but she will need to get past Canadian star Ellie Black and the British team to become the fourth Australian woman to snare the all-around gold.

PARATRIATH­LON

Men’s and women’s event 9.31am Bill Chaffey will start as favourite for the men while an intriguing story is developing in the women’s event. Emily Tapp will lead Australia’s charge but her teammate and newcomer to the sport Lauren Parker is also a contender less than a year after an accident left her a paraplegic.

TRIATHLON

Mixed team relay final, 1pm Australia are the reigning mixed team relay world champions and will be among the favourites at home. Four of the six-person team will be named to race, with Ashleigh Gentle expected to be given a shot at redemption after a disappoint­ing individual race.

HOCKEY

Men’s pool match, Australia v South Africa, 4.30pm The Kookaburra­s’ quest for a sixth Commonweal­th Games gold medal from as many attempts begins today against a South African side they rolled 6-0 in Glasgow four years ago. Expect Australia to make an early statement as they look to banish memories of their disappoint­ing Rio quarter-final exit.

GYMNASTICS

Men’s All-Around, 4.41pm Fresh from leading England to gold in the men’s artistic gymnastics team event, Nile Wilson is set to capture a lion’s share of individual glory. Wilson has qualified first for the individual allaround, parallel bars and horizontal bar final. The 22-year old will compete in a total of five finals as he is also through to the floor exercise and still rings events.

CYCLING

Men’s sprint final, 8.47pm Matthew Glaetzer goes into the men’s individual sprint as the reigning world champion after becoming the first Australian since Sean Eadie in 2002 to win the rainbow jersey. He will be a marked man and gold medal favourite along with the New Zealand trio of Eddie Dawkins, Ethan Mitchell and Sam Webster.

BASKETBALL

Men’s pool match, Australia v New Zealand, Cairns, 9pm This is a preview of what should be the gold medal showdown. Boomers legend Andrew Gaze says the Tall Blacks are a serious threat to Australia’s hopes of capturing gold on home soil.

HOCKEY

Women’s pool match, Australia v Ghana, 9.30pm The Hockeyroos may comfortabl­y dispatch lowly Ghana but have much to improve on after a battling 1-0 victory over Canada. Australia has three 9.30pm starts in three days but have been preparing for it by training and eating late.

CYCLING

Men’s 15km scratch race final, 9.47pm Cameron Meyer sat out the team pursuit to open the week so he should have fresh legs going into the men’s 15km scratch race, but if he doesn’t get away from the field then keep an eye out for Leigh Howard.
